AIM: SWBAT define and understand the purpose and functions of the first 5 amendments to the Constitution by completing the tasks below, and all class work assignments with at least 80% accuracy.
Today we will be discussing the first five amendment, or changes, to the Constitution. As we learn, we will also be giving our thoughts on how these amendments affect American Society today.
Task 1: After learning about the 1st Amendment, give your opinion on the following question: Do you think all people- including people who hate other race, religions, homosexuals, etc.- should be allowed to speak their opinions freely? Should they be able to hold meetings, parades and rallies in public places?
Task 2: After learning about the 2nd Amendment, give your opinion on the following question: Do you think that the government should outlaw the right to bear arms, to decrease crime?
Task 3: After learning about the 4th Amendment, give your opinion on the following question: Do you think the police should be able to search and arrest people who may be terrorists without following the rules of the 4th amendment? Why or why not?
Task 4: After learning about the 5th Amendment, give your opinion on the following question: Should someone be forced or tortured to talk if the government thinks they are guilty of a horrible crime?
Task 5: Complete the "Amendments 1-5 Summary Assignment. This is due by the time the timer goes off. If you haven't clicked "Submit" by then, your assignment will not be accepted.
